About 15km from the center of the southern city of Can Tho, the 7ha Bao Gia Farm Camping offers gardens and ponds for tourists to visit and take part in farm work. The farm, located in Thuong Thanh Ward of Cai Rang District, produces clean products according to organic methods.
Tourists can harvest different types of fruit and vegetables depending on the season. A work day usually begins at 7:30 am, and each participant is equipped with a conical straw hat, gloves and a basket.
Tourists can work in groups and choose their favorite activity, whether harvesting fruit and vegetable, or tending to rabbits, chickens, ducks and pigeons.
According to Nguyen Thi Ngoc Suong, Project Manager at Bao Gia Farm Camping, visitors can not only learn about the process of making organic products but also discover local cultural values. The farm also organizes training by artisans on making products such as sedge mats and bamboo baskets.
“Looking towards green, environmentally friendly tourism, Bao Gia Farm Camping has built tour programs for visitors to discover the nature and local culture,” Suong said.
Can Tho Farm in Long Hoa Ward of Binh Thuy District is another destination for people who like green tourism. Covering more than 6,000sq.m, Can Tho Farm attracts visitors to its hydroponic vegetable and melon farming models. Visitors can learn about these cultivation models or even rent small plots of land in the farm to grow vegetables. Tourists often come here during weekends or holidays.
Nghenh Xuan Farmstay in Ben Tre Province’s Chau Thanh District is also an interesting place for nature lovers. The farm provides visitors with accommodations and river tours to floating markets and orchards. Nghenh Xuan Farmstay provides ao ba ba (a kind of shirt used by South Vietnamese people) for visitors who want to look like farmers and experience their everyday routines such as catching fish and shrimp, canoeing to pick mangrove apples, and preparing different kinds of food from their harvest and catch.
Viet Mekong Farmstay in Dong Thap Province’s Tam Nong District is surrounded by rice fields. It features lotus ponds, vegetable and flower gardens, rows of coconut trees and bananas, thatched cottages and a space displaying farming tools.
Ho Ngoc Tram, CEO of Viet Mekong Farmstay, said the farm combines tourism and a clean agriculture experience. Visitors can cultivate rice, harvest farm produce, catch fish and ride buffalo carts. In the evening, they enjoy local music and listen to stories about the history of Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds). The farm provides visitors with both space for entertainment and an opportunity to explore local culture.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, green tours have become more attractive to domestic tourists, offering fresh air and wide-open spaces, creating opportunities for the Mekong Delta to develop this type of tourism and contribute to sustainable regional development.
